David Thompson: The Great Forgotten Canadian Resurrected

David Thompson was born in England in 1771 and was recruited by the Hudson’s Bay Company at age 14 to come to Canada to work. For 28 years he traveled throughout the west living among the native people, trading with them, forging relationships and in return they helped him on his expeditions to map Western Canada. 2007 marks a bicentennial anniversary of his exploration and map documentation of the Columbia River, the Kootenays and, now called, the Selkirk Loop. His life was that of fur trader, cartographer, stargazer, explorer, father, and husband. His final days in Montreal with his wife Charlotte is a story not often told but will be at the Procter Storytelling Festival.
