Barry was the founding storyteller at the first meeting in Procter in 1998. He has been on the organizing committee ever since. This is his fourth time appearing at the festival. Other parts of his life include teaching, writing, caregiving and storytelling in schools throughout the Kootenays. His previous stories have been of his native Rossland but this year he will focus on Procter. Barry and his family have lived in Harrop since 1988.
As part of the tribute to the Harrop-Procter centennial, we are including stories of two early families of the area. Barry’s story will bring excerpts and anecdotes from the Dosenberger family who have been here for more than one hundred years. An industrious lot, they have been involved in everything from market gardening and cattle to construction and roadbuilding. Three siblings, grandchildren of the original Dosenbergers, are now seniors in the community, with a full five generations now having lived in Harrop and Procter.
