David is very well known in the local acting and storytelling scene, having appeared many times in the Capitol Theatre and the Living Room Theatre in Nelson. He started in the field in Kamloops in the early eighties with the Kamloops Players and the Western Canada Theatre Company. He went on to work with the Coconut Theatre Company and the Vancouver Playhouse. After travelling the world as an itinerant English teacher he finally settled in Nelson ten years ago where he continues to hone his considerable skills. David recently took a year off from performing to teach drama to Class Nine Waldorf School students and to help direct the Class Eight production of As You Like It. This will be his first on-stage appearance since he told the story of Hampton Gray at last year’s festival.
Hotels have played an important role in stories throughout the Festival’s history, just as they have in the history of Nelson. There is much ado about purported goings on in the Hume Hotel a century ago. A recent film, interest in the hotel by the Paranormal Society, and now the Kootenay Storytelling Festival bringing a tale of intrigue and a very public death. Does a ghost reside in room # …..? Were tickets really sold to the last public hanging in Nelson? Was the punishment more gruesome than the crime? This tale is not for the faint of heart.
